Sitting on Top of the World

On my way from Thessaloniki to Athens I was able to stop in the small town of Kalambaka where Meteora is. The mountains here are famous for a serious of 12 monasteries that were built atop these immense rocks back in the 13th century. I took a steep hike up to the monasteries, but the views were definitely worth it.

Approaching Meteora from Kalambaka.

A view of one of the monasteries.

Sitting on top of the world, well more like standing, but you get the picture. (No pun intended)

Another one of the monasteries, only 6 of the 12 remain today.

The rocks of Meteora at night!

A panorama from one of the many view points atop these rocks.
